Southwest Extends Schedule, More Destinations for Travellers

This week Southwest Airlines extended its schedule to Jan. 5, 2022, and with this came a host of new routes and even two new destinations. These two new cities mean the carrier will have added 18 new destinations since early 2020.

Syracuse, N.Y.

This city located in central New York state will be the carriers 121st destination. This announcement brings to an end a multi-year effort getting the Dallas-based airline to start flights to the city.

U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer even had something to say about the new service; “Today’s announcement ensures that Central New York residents will no longer have to travel to Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, or any other city to take advantage of Southwest’s low fares”

Flights to Syracuse will include three daily flights to Baltimore-Washington (BWI) beginning on Nov. 14, 2021, and a seasonal Saturday-only service to Orlando that begins on Nov. 20, 2021.

Although this will be the first scheduled Southwest flight into Syracuse, the airport has seen them a few times in the past for military and sport charters.

Bellingham, Wash.

This city will become the third destination the carrier offers out of Washington state, along with Spokane and Seattle-Tacoma. This will also be the carrier’s furthest destination in the north, the honor was previously held by Spokane.

Flights begin on Nov. 7, 2021, to Oakland twice daily, while Las Vegas will only be once a day.

Southwest will be the airport’s fourth carrier, along with Alaska Airlines, Allegiant Air, and San Juan Airlines. The latter two of which have hubs at the airport.

With the vaccine roll out in full force and most of the country already having at least one dose, Southwest has announced they will resume service to all of its previously served international destinations.

Beginning Oct. 7, 2021, the carrier will resume flights from Ft. Lauderdale to Nassau in the Bahamas, Grand Cayman, and Providenciales in Turks and Caicos.

One month later, on Nov. 7, 2021, Ft. Lauderdale will see the return of Cancun and Montego Bay, Jamaica. On the same day, Houston Hobby will see services to Belize City resume.

Not only will they resume previously served international routes, but they will be adding a few as well.

Cancun will be seeing new service to Kansas City and Chicago O’Hare, on Nov. 13 and 7 respectively. This means the airline will serve Cancun, Mexico from both airports in Chicago.

Puerto Rico will also see additional service as the carrier plans on launching a Saturday-only service from the Island to both St. Louis, Missouri and Buffalo, N.Y., both start on Nov. 13, 2021. Meanwhile, across the Caribbean Sea Liberia, Costa Rica will be starting Saturday service to Denver.

In addition to these new routes, the following will be starting;

Sacramento, Calif. to Palm Springs Calif. – Daily flights begin Oct. 7, 2021

Washington Reagan to Sarasota, Fla. – Daily beginning Nov. 7, 2021

New York LaGuardia to Sarasota, Fla. – Every day except Saturdays beginning Nov. 7, 2021

Dallas Love Field to Palm Springs, Fla. – Nov. 7, 2021, Sunday’s only
