Joe Duval is the Director for Honeywell Aerospace Flight Test Operations at Sky Harbor in Phoenix, Arizona operating Honeywell’s fleet of testbed aircraft. In that role, he is responsible for all flight test engineering efforts, development and strategy, and attaining and maintaining technical and programmatic excellence across a team of exceptionally talented engineers, technicians, mechanics, and pilots. He pilots Honeywell’s Boeing 757, Gulfstream 550, and King Air B200 aircraft and participates in flight test on other aircraft in Honeywell’s fleet. He reports directly to the Honeywell VP
Advanced and Applied Technology.

Previously, Joe was site leader and lead test pilot at the same site where he had responsibility for operating both Honeywell’s Boeing 720 and Boeing 757 aircraft ensuring accurate and repeatable data for a wide variety of internal Honeywell customers.

Prior to joining Honeywell, Joe served as a research and test pilot with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Lincoln Laboratory Flight Facility. In that role, he was instrumental in bringing their Boeing 707 flight test airplane “online” after transitioning from an all military staff to a civilian staff by instructing pilots and flight engineers in operating that type aircraft. He designed and flew flight test profiles for emerging technology in government and commercial applications.

Joe also worked as chief pilot and director of operations for both part 91 and part 125 operations transporting highly visible, high net worth clients. He was responsible for all aspects of the worldwide operation of Boeing and Gulfstream aircraft including; scheduling personnel, operational communication with various FAA offices, managing flight planning, budgeting, and overall safety of the operation. He also was a flight officer at American Airlines getting furloughed shortly after the September 11th attacks.

Joe served in the United States Air Force as a pilot on the C-130 and B-707 (VIP) aircraft. Through a series of positions of increasing responsibility, Joe advanced to become the chief pilot for the flight department responsible for the transportation the general officer and staff of Special Operations Command (one of the nine combatant commands). He also served as the chief of safety for the same department and is trained as an accident investigator.

Phoenix, AZ is home for Joe, his wife Romy, and their son. Joe has over 9000 hours flying time as a pilot and flight engineer in multiple aircraft and holds FAA type ratings in nine aircraft. He has a BS from Oregon State University in software engineering.

Joe is involved in the Society of Experimental Test Pilots and is Honeywell’s corporate point of contact for the society. He also attended the National Test Pilot School in Mojave, CA and is a graduate of the Southern California Safety Institute’s Flight Safety Officer Course.
